The Art on Aplin Gallery and the exhibitions it displays form a significant component of the Dr Edward Koch Foundation fundraising. The gallery opened in November 2000 and has since that time displayed an extraordinary range of feature artists, contributing much to the cultural life of the city. The gallery is the public face of the Foundation for many people, providing as it does the façade for the less glamorous but necessary office work of the Foundation.
It is the aim of the Foundation to increase the net income from the gallery and with this in mind, some changes have been made in 2006 to the frequency of exhibitions. Whereas previously the works were changed every month, it has been decided to give more wall time to each featured artist, and to reduce the number of exhibitions to five. The work associated with the exhibitions is time-consuming - organisation and scheduling is never easy, and meeting the Foundation's high standards of presentation takes up a lot of the volunteers' time.
The gallery attracts sponsors for the opening nights and their contributions are acknowledged as being valuable for the fundraising of the Foundation. The opening nights are by invitation only, and always prove to be successful and enjoyable occasions.
